Is the proteus syndrome ( 1/2 man 1/2 tree} a recessive genetic disease and can it be prevented?

I am interested in the facts of the disease like: when is the onset of the disease, can it be prevented, does this disease affect mostly boys and men from India, does it effect the heart, and what is the life expectancy, does it also affect the internal organs as it does to the skin, bones etc…?
I am impressed by the courage of these young people because of what they have endured physically, emotionally, socially, and mentally. They need support and encouragement just like everyone else and most of all they deserve respect and their dignity honored.
It is inhumane to display people and brand them with names, such as, half man/half tree or bubble-man. And have model children prance around on stage and forced to touch individuals for publicity and for a wage, which may be a very small % of what the owner may receive. It upsets me that fame is above the health of an individual. The money received should go to medical expenses or living expenses.. They need hope and help.

Anyone who has knowledge on the disease Scurvy?

I have been set a Science Assignment and have chosen to do Scurvy under the catergory ‘Disease.’
I have written a short report which i plan to present as an oral presentation along with a PowerPoint slideshow.
If you have any knowledge on the subject please read my report, comment and/ or suggest other points for me to include.
PLEASE! I really want good marks for this and I’d love some expert advice.

Scurvy is a non-infectious deficiency disease caused by a lack or Vitamin C. Scurvy can cause many infections and disfigurations including liver spots, ’spongy’ gums and bleeding from all mucous membranes. (These membranes line various
body cavities that are exposed to the external environment and internal organs.) Scurvy is also often referred to as Barlow’s Disease, after Sir Thomas Barlow, a british physician who first described it. Scurvy does not only infect humans, animals such as Primates and Guinea Pigs are also at risk as they have a natural Vitamin C defficiency.

The symptoms of this disease include
‘Purplish’ spots on the skin, especially the legs
‘Spongy’ gums
Bleeding Mucous Membranes
Pallor (a reduced amount of oxyhemoglobin in skin or mucous membranes which results in pale colouration of the skin.) -Oxyhemoglobin is the oxygen-loaded form of hemoglobin, the predominant protein in red blood cells.
Sunken Eyes
Opening of healed scars
Separation of knitted bone fractures.

History
Scurvy was first discovered in the early 13th Century, however it was not until 1747 that citrus was proven as the best and most affective cure. The connection between Vitamin C and Scurvy was not discovered until 1932.

Modern Incidence
Infants and elderly people are at high risk of Scurvy and it is very common for people of that category to become infected with the disease. (Even I had it when I was a baby!!!) Scurvy is rare in adults, however if they become infected Scurvy can easily prove fatal, much like the mumps.

Prevention
Scurvy can easily be prevented by a diet of citrus fruits (such as oranges and lemons) and/ or Vitamin C supplements.

vitamins b for preventing beriberi

If this desviadarente vitamin complex in the minds of our scientists and specialists innutrition crack.Il is happy for them that the other vitamins – A, C, D, K, etc – are not as complex as vitamin B. Human mind can not hope to unravel this complexity.

B vitamins are essential to life, are found in all living things. It is difficult to distinguish between perturbations caused by a deficiency of personano members of the complex and has more than once was the case of a deficiency attributable to a lack of whats group that later was found due to several missing. Beriberi is the most notable example of this (a few years ago, vitamin B was thought to be composed of only two factors. One of them was known as vitamin F, and the other vitamin G.) Only three of the complex group B has been shown the importance of human beings. We will tell us more of these three here.

B1, or thiamine, vitamin antineuritic: This vitamin is said to prevent and cure beriberi. It is an organic compound consisting of two parts, one of which contains sulfur and nitrogen from petroleum. Is not destroyed by oxygen, but is destroyed by heat, especially above the boiling point, when the heating is maintained for some time, as in baking, cooking and frying. The tiaminae is not destroyed by cooking at 100 ° for one hour, but it is soluble in water, so much of it is in the water in foods that are cooked. Soda is added to food in the kitchen adds to the destruction of B1.

As an enzyme, which encourages the conversion of glucose dioxide carboneet water. If there is a deficiency of this vitamin that change is incomplete and an accumulation of pyruvic acid results. Is encouraged and essential to growth, it is essential for normal nerve function is essential for the use of carbohydrates, is “encouraging” the appetite and the normal functions of the inteStino and is essential for reproduction and lactation. It is said that to prevent and “cure” and other forms of beriberi neuritis and diseases of the heart and circulation associated with it.

Beriberi, neuritis or multiple, which is characterized by inflammation of peripheral nerves ydegeneración, intense pain, which, ultimately, paralysis and wasting of muscles, it is said in response to B1 deficiency. It should be noted, however, that diets that aren in beriberi are deficient in B1.

One of the first symptoms of B1 deficiency is loss of appetite, but the reader should not think that is the only cause of loss of appetite. DEB1 The amount needed varies with the activity. Any increase in metabolic rate increases the need for this vitamin. Muscular work and the growing need. Undoubtedly, the cold, it does the same. More information is required during pregnancy and lactation in relation to otthird time. The liver can store vitamin D to some extent. A number of other agencies to do the same. We need a daily supply due to this límitealmacenamiento.

B1 is said not to be widely distributed and vegetables and fruit are said onpauvres sources. Emphasis is placed on the yeast, and whole soybeans as the source of this vitamin. This becomes an error, because there are many animals that vegetarians do not eat these products. Milk is considered a mathe source, but the amount needed for normal growth is three to five times more than required by adults to prevent beriberi. This milk is the only diet of the calves during the period of fastest growth. Yeast and wheat germ are highlighted as sources. Alégards, the “authorities” to focus on certain commercial food plants.

B1, or thiamine synthetic chlorine should not be used or having to eat liver extract Higado of this vitamin. Yeast preparations should be avoided. All B1 for all purposes of life is derived from vegetables, fresh fruit and nuts. Wheat germ and rice are also rich in polishings it like most beans and peas.

B2 or riboflavin (vitamin and flavin G) consists of a single type of sugar (ribose) and a yellow pigment (flavin), hence the name. It is slightly soluble in water, not withstand exposure to direct sunlightthe sun, but is largely unchanged by heat. It is composed of carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen and oxygen. Is decomposed by both visible and ultraviolet. It was first discovered in milk in 1879, was known mainly vitamins has also been called Lactoflavin.

In collaboration with thiamine and niacin, riboflavin joueun important role in the oxidation of carbohydrates. Promotes and is essential for health. Their absence in the diet of rats is saidwhich resulted in loss of hair and atrophy of the secretory glands of the oil. Riboflavin deficiency is said to result in skinlesions, especially Cheli or cracks in the corners of the mouth, and cheilitis. Bloodshot eyes and an increased susceptibility to infections, especially pneumonia, is also said as a result of their disability. In sufficient quantity, is clvisant prevent abnormal changes in the eye, preventing cataractsas dee and lack vision. At the bottom of serious disturbances in animals, including the great weight loss and blindness, it is said that the result of a deficiency in B2.

The “authorities” to emphasize the milk, eggs, kidney and soybeans as a source of riboflavin. The milk is said to be the best source of all. It was also said to occur in the intestine by bacterial action. Fresh fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds of all kinds all èmee neded riboflavin. Élno is necessary to buy commercial products or products from the laboratory to obtain this vitamin.

Vitamin B3 has not been isolated and its nature is unknown. It is believed to be identical to pantothentic acid.

Pantothenic acid is said to be distributed in all living cells, hence its name, derived from a Greek word meaning “throughout the world.” It is an organic compound that contains calcium, carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen and oxygeno. Officinal your food is not established, but it is considered necessary for the nutrition in all higher animals, including humans, and is probably associated with the distribution of riboflavin. It is also said that one of the two factors preventing gray hair. Nothing has stopped the hair gray.
